The "Dam" Tour and A Bucket List

A couple of weeks ago, our friends Sam and Sylvia came up for the weekend. We ALWAYS look forward to a visit from them. We enjoyed Mexican food on Friday night to celebrate Sam's birthday, breakfast together on Saturday morning, and then took a tour of Shasta Dam. If you haven't been out to the lake lately, you should take a drive out there. The lake is now like 20 feet from the top, and it is beautiful!!

The dam tour was really interesting, and I enjoyed it so much. After the tour, we watched the movie in the Visitors' Center. It was great!! Towards the end of the movie, they interviewed a group of people that had worked on the dam.

Here's some pictures:

Three 3 Shastas: Shasta Dam, Shasta Lake, and Mt. Shasta
(I took this from the Vista Point with my little cheap camera.)

Can you believe I've lived in Redding all my life (50 years) and had never taken a tour of Shasta Dam? It got me thinking about other things I've never done, so I started a "Redding Area Bucket List". Here's what I have so far:
  1. Eat at Jack's
  2. Go to the Kool April Nites parade
  3. Attend the Redding Rodeo
  4. See the Sculpture Park at City Hall
  5. Go to the Civic Auditorium to enjoy the Fourth of July fireworks
  6. Go to a Farmer's Market
  7. Eat at the French Gulch Hotel and look through the General Store
  8. Go to Market Fest
  9. Attend a game at the Big League Dreams Sports Park

Who needs to go on vacation? I have plenty to do right here in Redding!!! :0)

  1. Such a good idea! I've done #'s 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, and 9. I'll have to make one, too. I've never taken the dam tour either or hiked at Castle Craigs. I'm sure there are a couple more I can think of. Fun idea!! :)

  3. What a great list! We lived in Red Bluff, and sadly haven't done many of the things on your list...we will have to add some of your great ideas to our list of places to see when we visit this summer! Thanks for sharing!!!

  5. O.K. Julie, I am not a Redding native, but have seen everything on your bucket list. As your friend I would love to help you accomplish everything on your bucket list. Only thing I ask is that you continue to add to your list, because once we finish this list, it does not give you the right to leave. In case you're wondering, seeing New York City is on my bucket list. So if you want to return the favor, I'd love your company. Better yet, if you want to pay for the trip, it would be more than welcomed. How about I take you to Jack's, and you take me to New York. I love you.
