I Wish I Were A Bear

I wish I were a bear.
If you're a bear, you get to hibernate.
You do nothing but sleep for six months.
I could get used to that.
And another thing; before you hibernate,
you're supposed to eat yourself stupid.
That wouldn't bother me either.
If you're a mama bear,
everyone knows you mean business;
you swat anyone who bothers your cubs.
If your cubs get out of line, you swat them, too.
Your husband expects you to growl when you wake up.
He expects you to have hairy legs and excess body fat.
He likes it.
I wish I were a bear.

Celebrations!

There's a party goin' on right here,
A celebration to last throughout the years,
So bring your good times and your laughter, too,
We're gonna celebrate your party with you!

Celebration
Let's all celebrate and have a good time!
Celebration
We're gonna celebrate and have a good time!

Well, we have been celebrating a lot lately (not that I'm complaining!). Celebrations add excitement and a lot of fun to life. They are an excuse to gather with the family and friends that mean the most to us. There is something about a great celebration that reminds us of the purpose of our life and of the power of our closest relationships.
First of all, we helped our friends, Kim and Les, celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary. Congratulations to you guys for making it 25 years. I'm looking forward to being invited to your 50th (and seeing those pink candles):

Next, we helped Mrs. Kinnier celebrate her 80th Birthday. On Friday, she had a luncheon for her closest friends. Then on Sunday, we had a huge celebration with her family. My BBF, Jill, and Scott and Carmella came for the celebration. They stayed with us, which was sooo fun!

Last, but not least, my Mom and I helped Joy Beatie (a long time friend of my Mom's family) celebrate her 90th Birthday:

You know me, I love people, celebrations, and parties! Life might be a boring for a little while after all this celebrating! :0)

RCHS Winter Semi-Formal

Last weekend, Redding Christian High School had their Winter Semi-Formal. I'm SOOOO biased, but my son is one handsome dude!!!!

Lyle asked Hannah Williamson, his good friend, to go with him:

Garrett, Emily, Hannah, and Lyle

Garrett and Lyle -- Buddies since 3rd Grade

Some of the sophomores went to the Williamson's new home in Palo Cedro for a nice dinner. Donna had the table sat sooo beautiful, and Dave and Donna served the kids. It was a nice relaxing time and no "expensive bill" like at a restaurant :0). A great big thanks to the Williamson's for their hospitality!

Mr. Filkins (one of Hilary and Lyle's favorite teachers) is a junior high/high school math teacher at RCS. He and his wife teach the kids a different ballroom dance each year. This year they learned the East Coast Swing. The Filkins are beautiful dancers:

The kids had such a GREAT time. I am so thankful for Redding Christian School. It has been such a great experience for both of my kids!

Simple Pleasures

Recently, I was reading someone's blog about simple pleasures. They say the best things in life are free, and simple pleasures prove that statement is true. I decided to take time out to make a list of some of my simple pleasures. What a great reminder of all the wonderful things in my life. Here's just a few:

Hot cocoa on a cold, rainy day

Finding money in your coat or pants pocket

Going to bed on a Friday night,
knowing I don't have to get up until I wake up
(NO ALARM!!)

Pepsi (with lots of ice) in a glass with a straw

Meeting friends for coffee, lunch,
or sometimes "a girls' night out"

Snuggled up under a blanket on a rainy day
with a fire in the fireplace
and reading a great romance book

Laughing until I cry

Waking up a couple of hours before the alarm will go off
and realizing I can go back to sleep

Looking at old pictures
or talking about old times with a friend

Finding a close parking spot at Walmart

Cards and notes sent via snail mail

Yummy smelling candles burning

Staying in my PJ's for awhile on Saturday morning
while I enjoy a cup of coffee

Clean sheets on my bed

Opening the windows on a Spring day to air out the house

A Sunday afternoon nap

Singing at the top of my lungs
while in the car or cleaning house
( always when I'm alone :0) )

BIG hugs from my teenagers
(without have to ask for one!) :0)

What are some of your simple pleasures?

2010 Homecoming

A couple of weeks ago, Redding Christian High School had their 2010 Homecoming. The Sophomore class chose Lyle as their Homecoming Prince. One of his best friends, Claire, was the Homecoming Princess. My camera didn't work for some reason, so I've been waiting for someone to "share" some pictures with me so I could share some pictures with you. Hope you enjoy (especially Aunt Judy, Uncle Wesley, and Auntie Jill).

Is this guy handsome or what??

Sophomore Prince and Princess, Lyle and Claire:

Best Friends:

As each couple walked in the Gym and down in front of the bleachers, one of the teachers introduced them, gave their GPA (grade point average), shared a list of church and school activities they have been involved in, told their college plans, and shared their favorite Bible verse.

I feel blessed to have a wonderful son who loves God, his family, his friends, and his school! You make us proud, Lyle!

A Little Bit of Advice

Can I share a little bit of advice with you?

DO NOT go to Walmart in the middle of the afternoon on the first day of the month!!!

Trust me on this one!! Don't even go if you are out of laundry soap and people in your household are threatening to go to school and work naked tomorrow!!! :0)
